Meig Crag, Inverness (NW), scotland

Click here for OS map link NH366557

A Huge Split boulder sits underneath the left hand side of Meig Crag in Strathconon about 40 minutes west of Inverness. A number of enjoyable problems have been cleaned and climbed anda couple of project lines remain. The boulders now give a varied and pleasant evening circuit. The rock quality ranges from soft and crumbly in places to solidand reliable in others and is likely to settle down as the problems get more traffic. Care is needed with the occasional loose flake. Many of the problems have a highball feel and mats and spotters will be handy. The crag itself faces north but the aspect is open and the boulders get plenty of evening sun. The situation above Loch Meig is very pleasant and the walk in takes less than a minute. Some of the easier lines may have been first climbed during the development of the crag itself in the 1990s.
